Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a four games to three victory in the series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
