19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
