Preview this Remastered Classic Adventure: This Free Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Arrives Soon.
Players anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait the full month. An free-to-play playable preview will go live on the seventh of January, granting a sizable taste into the game's opening hours. Critically, all advancement made within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the full game upon its eventual debut.
Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Reimagining
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a comprehensive reimagining of the seminal year 2000 role-playing game, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from recent series re-releases, such as the recently released HD-2D versions, this remake adopts a charming three-dimensional aesthetic. Environments have been crafted to resemble detailed dioramas, with characters having a whimsical chibi-esque look.
"Even with the previous port, the narrative was remained notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team came to a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this adventure for today's gamers."
Significant Mechanical Improvements & Modernizations
The development team has introduced a host of modernizations to refresh the original gameplay loop. These include:
- Quick Overworld Encounters: Taking a cue from contemporary role-playing games, weaker monsters are now defeated directly on the field eliminating the need for initiating a separate traditional combat screen.
- Adjustable Battle Speed: Players have the option to accelerate battle sequences to rapidly get past less challenging fights.
- Expanded Job Mechanics: One completely new job class was introduced for this reimagining. Additionally, characters now have the capacity to take on a secondary vocation, greatly expanding strategic depth.
These changes are designed to mitigate one of the original game's frequent criticisms: its considerable playtime. The initial storyline could easily take more than 100 hours to finish. This new version has been specifically reworked to refine pacing and cut down on perceived bloat.
