Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
