HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Next Ahead of Schedule on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the horror series Welcome to Derry, already receiving positive feedback and incorporating references from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the broadcaster has revealed that the second installment will debut sooner than expected, released fittingly for the spookiest night.

Schedule Change Details

Starting on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, before its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the show's first season will continue to air on the weekend on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the final episode on December 14th.

Series Overview

Set in the world of King's It, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while expanding on the setting established by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The first It movie focused on young characters battling supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that this show upholds that legacy. Nevertheless, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it set out to escalate the fear, delivering heightened horror than the movies and creating a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Located in the early '60s, this show introduces a new generation of grown-ups and kids inhabiting a apparently peaceful community hiding a dark secret. Derry functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a terrifying being reappears every 27 years. Even though the series might seem like it leans too heavily to the films initially, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its two-sided viewpoint—told from the viewpoints of young and old concurrently. Younger characters are especially susceptible to It's terror, but grown-ups aren’t spared dealing with their individual fears arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.

Episode 2 airs on October 31 at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
